Navy Town / Yokosuka, Kanagawa

Yokosuka in which surrounded by the bay and mountains has been flourished as Naval Port since 1860 circa. After we lost the World War 2, Yokosuka Port was taken over by the United States. Currently, Yokosuka has been prospered as a Naval Port between Japan and the United States until now.

Access:
From Tokyo Station, Take Yokosuka Line to Yokosuka Station.
It takes about one hour and twenty minutes.

When you get through a ticket gate at Yokosuka Station, take your left and you will find the park on the waterfront, Verny Park.

The Warships you can see around here are owned by Japanese Navy.

Verny Park where scent of the sea makes me feel comfortable at there.

Rose Garden is beautiful.

Leaving Verny Park for Dobuita Street. Take a walk along the street, Go by a pedestrian bridge and then take your turn right at the first traffic signal. You can see the Dobuita Street on your left.

You can see the many shops that suits American taste like some restaurants which serves tacos, hamburgers and American style bars.

It's fun to look around into the military shops.

When you pass through the Dobuita Street,Take your turn left and across the traffic signal, you will reach at Naval Base. Then, Let's go to the Mikasa Park. Take a walk like red line which I shown below.

Togo Heihachiro was a National Hero as a Japanese Royal Navy's admiral who destroyed Russian Navy during the period of Russo-Japanese War. Mikasa was the Japanese Royal Navy's flag ship in those days.

Yokosuka is also famous as for its curry. Japanese Royal Navy learned a lot from British Navy. British Navy adopted curry as a dish for the Navy because it was high in nutrition and well balanced and was easy to supply. so Japanese Navy introduced the British Navy's way they did. The reason that Yokosuka is famous for its curry still has traces in those days.
