Kappabashi street / Tawaramachi, Tokyo

Most of the tourist those who comes to Tokyo will be visiting Asakusa. I want you to visit a place where I recommend, Kappabashi street. Kappabashi street is lined with stores which sells Kitchen utensils and everything needed by restaurant supplies.

It's in the walking distance from Asakusa Thunder gate so please go there if you have time.

Some of the restaurant in Japan displays plastic food samples in order to let customers know what kind of meals do they serve. "Maizuru" which provides artistic plastic food samples is definitely worth seeing. Especially you would like to see iphone cases which made of fake foods like a pizza or spaghetti.

Kappabashi street between the Maizuru to Big chef, you can be find many kitchen utensils so how about shopping as souvenirs.

When you come to Big chef, take a subway from Tawaramachi station(田原町駅), You don't have to all the way back to Asakusa station.

Cheap eat

When you eat out during the stay in Tokyo, What would you do if you want to have a cheaper meal? The people live in Tokyo just like me think of my head about it, Eat out at Yohinoya(吉野家) that serves Beef bowl quickly is wdll known as "Yoshigyu".

Actually there are many place that serves cheaper meal than Yoshinoya but Yoshinoya has numerous locations so you can find every corner of the plane when you going out. So Japanese people who want to eat cheaper goes to Yoshinoya.

Well, Let's find a Yoshinoya and have a meal. Come with me!

I found it!

Have a seat and take your order. I ordered Regular Beef bowl.
You can say that "Gyudon namimori".

Meal is ready in a couple of minutes.

Meal is ready to eat though, Most of the people who ordered Beef bowl include me adds some soy sauce, pepper and red pickled ginger.

When you finished a meal, ask the waiter for the check.
Regular Beef bowl is 380 yen.

Let me give you some useful advice when you order a meal. Like I told you when you want to order Regular Beef bowl, you can say "Gyudon namimori" in Japanese. Why don't you ask for adds some broth on it so you can say "Gyudon namimori tsuyudaku" and ask for adds some onions on it so you can also say "Gyudon namimori tsuyudaku negidaku". Your meal served adds some broth and onions without extra charge.

Even though the Japanese people who are not familiar about Yoshinoya doesn't know the way to adds some broth and onions for free of its charge. The waiters in charge of you would be amazed that how does this tourist know the way to ask for adds some broth and onions in Japanese language?

Keio University Hiyoshi Campus / Hiyoshi, Yokohama

Keio University was established in 1858 is the oldest University in Japan. Also this University has traditional history, many of the students' grades are not only so good but also grow up in a rich family that why admired by many Japanese people.

However, there were sad history at Keio University Hiyoshi Campus. During the period of World War 2, Japanese Navy has moved their headquarter to school buildings at this Campus and completed construction underground headquarter for only one year to prepare air raids by American Military.
The War is over and this campus was taken over by American Military until 1949.

According to a bulliten board in front of this structure, It is said this structure was historic remain from a stone age, but actually this was ventilator which built by Japanese Military that connect to underground headquarter.

This used to be my playground. I was born and raised until ten years old. School site was on my way to elementary school which I belong between my house. The buildings which I shown on this page hasn't changed since back in the days and made me feel nostalgia.

Although this site ain't public place, anyone can go in there. Take a Toyoko line(東横線) from Shibuya(渋谷) station and get off at Hiyoshi(日吉) station. It takes about twenty minutes to get there. When you arrive at Hiyoshi station, you can find a tree lined road. you just take a walk on this street and can see the buildings which I shown on this page.
